Give Yourself the Gift Of Better Comfort at a Lower Cost

Inflation is already making the holidays a little tough. Why add high heating bills to the mix? The issue is that you may not be confident that you can stay warm without racking up a large monthly energy bill. We are here to say that there is more than one way to stay warm without spending all of your hard-earned money.

Read on to learn some tried and true tips that will allow you to get the most out of your heater without spending the most money. Let’s work together to make sure you have the most comfortable home to enjoy this season.

Close the windows and doors … but open the blinds

It is important to keep the cold air out and attempt to get as much warmth inside as you can. Your doors and windows will play a big role in this.

First, make sure that all doors and windows are completely closed. We know that a breath of fresh air can be nice, but if you are really craving it, we’d say step outside if you can. Keeping doors and windows closed tight prevents warm air from exiting the home and keeps cold air outside. This helps to prevent the need for your heater to run overtime to try to keep the house warm.

You can also reduce the amount of work you have to do by leaving blinds or curtains open. This will allow warm sunlight into the house, providing radiant heat that will reduce the amount of work the heater has to put in.

Check your heater filters and change or clean them

If you haven’t checked or changed your heater’s air filter yet, now is the time to do it!

The air filter sits in your system’s return air duct, where it pulls in cool air to warm up. Keeping a clean filter in place allows air to enter your heater unobstructed, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of your system.

A dirty heater has the opposite effect. This is why checking and changing your air filter is so important. We advise checking your filter every couple of months when using your heater regularly. If you notice the filter is dirty, either change it out for a clean one or clean it off if it is reusable.

Lower the temperature on the thermostat

We know this sounds counterintuitive, but hear us out. Lowering the thermostat to around 68°F will provide you with enough warmth to stay comfortable without racking up a high energy bill each month. Additionally, bundling up in warm clothes and cooking hot food can make it even easier to drop the temperature another degree or two. You’ll still feel warm and get to enjoy even lower bills.

Schedule heating services with the professionals

Last but certainly not least, you will want to schedule heater repairs and heater maintenance in Bellevue with professionals like ours. A trained technician can tune up your heater for optimal operation and energy efficiency and can also provide prompt and effective repairs to restore a malfunctioning heater to normal.
